TikTok video size and safe zones explained

By Ryven Studios · 2 min read · Updated October 21, 2026

TikTok is made for vertical, full-screen video. If you upload a wide video, it plays as a small strip with empty space around it, which gets fewer views. Here's the size to use and where to place your text so it isn't hidden.

The right size

SettingRecommendation
Size1080 × 1920 pixels
Shape9:16, vertical
File typeMP4 works best
Photo posts1080 × 1920 pixels

The same size works for Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts and Facebook or WhatsApp Status, so you can make one video and post it everywhere.

Safe zones: where to put text

TikTok puts buttons and text on top of your video:

Keep your important text and faces in the middle of the frame, a little above center. Captions placed in the lower middle area usually stay visible.

Turn a wide video into a TikTok

  1. Open the Postora Video tool and choose your video.
  2. Select TikTok (1080 × 1920).
  3. Choose Blur fill to keep the whole video with a blurred background, or Crop to fill to fill the screen.
  4. Optional: add your logo, or use Auto text from speech to add captions automatically.
  5. Download the video and upload it to TikTok.

Everything runs in your browser, so your video stays on your device.
