WhatsApp Status size for photos and videos
WhatsApp Status shows photos and videos full screen on the phone, in a tall shape. When you post a wide video or photo, it ends up as a small strip in the middle with black space around it, or gets cut off. Here's how to make your Status fill the screen properly.
The right size
| Type | Size | Shape |
|---|---|---|
| Status photo | 1080 × 1920 pixels | 9:16, tall |
| Status video | 1080 × 1920 pixels | 9:16, tall |
| Profile picture (DP) | 640 × 640 pixels | 1:1, square |
This is the same tall shape used by Instagram Stories, Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts, so one vertical video can be shared everywhere.
Turn a wide video into a Status video
- Open the Postora Video tool and choose your video.
- Select the Facebook / WA Status size (1080 × 1920).
- Pick a fit: Blur fill keeps the whole video and fills the top and bottom with a blurred copy, Crop to fill fills the screen but trims the sides, and Black bars keeps the plain look.
- Add your logo or captions if you like, then download the video and post it to your Status.
The video is processed on your device, so it isn't uploaded anywhere.
Photos for Status
For a photo, use the Story resizer, which makes a 1080 × 1920 image. Choose Show all to keep the whole photo with a blurred background. It's perfect for group photos and product pictures.
For your profile picture, use the WhatsApp DP resizer. WhatsApp shows your DP as a circle, so keep your face in the center.
Keep your Status looking sharp
- Use the HD option. When sending media, WhatsApp may offer a choice between standard and HD quality. Choose HD for the clearest result.
- Keep text away from the edges. Your name and the reply bar sit at the top and bottom of the screen.
- Long videos get split. WhatsApp limits how long each Status clip can be and splits longer videos into parts. Trim your video to the key moment for the best effect.
